Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued a Fire Weather Watch for gusty winds and low humidity, which is in effect from this morning through this evening.
Along with the Honey Lake Valley and Lassen County, affected areas will include Surprise Valley, the west Humboldt Basin in Pershing County and northern Washoe County.
Winds will be out of the southwest at 20 to 25mph with gusts to 40mph. Localized gusts of up to 45mph are possible near the Oregon border.
The humidity will drop to between 12 and 18% for three to eight hours.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
