Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued a Red Flag Warning for thunderstorms and strong outflow winds, which is in effect from 5:00a.m. Saturday until 8:00p.m. Sunday.
Along with the Honey Lake Valley the warning extends to the eastern Sierra, northeast California including
the Surprise Valley and western Nevada.
Scattered thunderstorms, with little to no rainfall and wind gusts upwards of 50mph, are expected each day.
Lightning can create new fire starts, especially after our recent heat wave, and may combine with strong outflow winds to cause a fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
