Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued a Winter Storm Watch in effect from early Saturday through Sunday morning for Lassen, eastern Plumas and eastern Sierra counties.
The warning area includes the cities of Susanville, Sierraville, Portola, Westwood and Loyalton.
Heavy snow, with accumulations between 4 and 7 inches, is expected by Sunday, down to the valley floor.
Winds will be gusting as high as 40mph at the beginning of the storm.
Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions. Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation.
Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your
destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order.
