Westwood Man Convicted of First Degree Murder in 2023 Case

Westwood resident Edward Harold Biggs was convicted on the charge of First Degree Murder and Aggravated Mayhem for the October 2023 death of a Westwood man, according to details provided by Lassen County District Attorney Melyssah Rios Friday.

The jury further found that Biggs used a deadly weapon, in this case an axe handle, in the commission of the crimes.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 21st.

“The prosecution presented ten witnesses over two days and we thank all of them for their participation. We offer condolences to the victim’s family and also thank them for their patience and support throughout this process,” said Rios, “And of course we thank the jury for their time and deliberation over this past week dealing with a difficult and sensitive subject.”

This was the fourth case presented by the D.A.’s ofice to a jury this year.

This case was investigated by the Lassen County Sheriffs Office with assistance from the CHP Red Bluff Office and the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. Victim support was provided by Lassen County Victim Witness. The case was tried by District Attorney S. Melyssah Rios.
