This article was delayed getting to Mr. Couso because as I kept trying to write it, this week’s feature continued to distract me. Not in a rude way, in a ‘I love his company and enjoy making fun of him when I see him, so I often get sidetracked when he is around’ type of way. I want to feature one of the Susanville Police Department’s Officers who is steadily becoming a local favorite, Cameron Monahan.
Officer Monahan spent the majority of his life here in Susanville, and you may recognize his smiling face, from when he worked at Jackson’s. Somehow, the PD was luckily enough to snatch him up, and we sent him to the police academy.
Upon his completion (almost two years ago), Cameron began the field training process, and I was lucky enough to be one of his field training officers.
I remember constantly thinking about how smart he was, and how his thought process was already like that of his peers.
As an Officer, Cameron is kind of like the gold standard. He is a “cop’s cop”, getting along well with his peers, and able to successfully handle the tactical side of the position, all while, being very active in the community outreach portion of law enforcement, truly being a great public servant.
In fact, the public adores him. From calls to service or community events, anyone who encounters Officer Monahan is always impressed by him. He is professional, but also very down to earth, making him the perfect person to respond to emergencies.
If I had to call 911, I 100% would want the officer or deputy that responded to be like Cameron.
Throughout the past year or two, I have been lucky enough to get to know Cameron, and I can attest that this guy is as genuine as they come. He has a huge heart, (especially for children) and the importance he places on his family is inspiring.
Cameron is always positive, and really never says anything bad about anyone ever. A page from a book we could learn from.
He may be one of our “newer” officers, but Cameron is certainly one of our best. He is a great addition to our family at the PD and another reason I love the place we live.
