Why We Love This Place Wednesdays: Charlotte Roberts

By Terra Avilla

We are almost there Lassen County! We are almost to 2022, and what a whirlwind it has been! I feel like just yesterday we were bidding the horror that was 2020 farewell, and here we are at the cusp of 2022.

What better way to say goodbye to this year than to highlight a person I believe brought so much love and light to our community in 2021. Someone who I adore and was one of the first people I met on my Susanville journey, Charlotte Roberts.

Now Ms. Charlotte works at Lassen Eskaton Manor. Charlotte does a million things for the senior residents over there, but primarily she takes it upon herself to make sure that all of them feel loved, supported, are safe and have access to activities around them. She wants them to feel connected to our community and she does a great job of doing so.

Since I have known her, she has not only ensured that her residents take full benefit of any resources but also plans special events for them, like collecting socks and Christmas cards, putting on classes for them or making sure they have transportation to other events. She goes above and beyond. Far greater than just her job requirements, Charlotte’s actions are driven by her great spirit and huge heart.

Aside from the great things she does at work, Charlotte also sits on the Susanville Salvation Army’s Advisory Board, dedicating her time helping this wonderful non-profit, as well as assuming her duties as the Benevolence Committee’s new President. And as if she is not busy enough, she also plays a huge role in our bicyclist community, helping with multiple events.

AND… as if that weren’t enough, she took on the Turkey Trot this year, ensuring our community continues to have such a great holiday tradition.

Aside from everything that she does, what’s most impressive is who she is. She is sweet and loving. She is smart and fierce. She is funny and a good sport (her patience with me is out of this world!)

I first met her eight years ago at Eskaton, as she arranged for the police to come speak to residents about fraud prevention. I remember how sweet she was not only to her residents but to me as well. And from that day, poor thing, she has been suckered into being my friend. For that, I am very grateful.

She has done so much for our wonderful community, never asking for praise, and never stepping into the limelight, yet so many benefit from her hard work and ferocious heart. I see you Ms. Charlotte. I appreciate you and you are most certainly one of the reasons I love the place we live.
