Why We Love This Place Wednesdays: Cody Loflin

By Terra Avilla

With the whirlwind this past week has been for my department, it has been incredibly nice to continually be surrounded by loving familiar faces. One in particular, I am so incredibly happy came back to work for the City after leaving us for a brief while. My pseudo brother, who always can make me laugh even when he does not mean to, Cody Loflin.

Cody, a Susanville native, has worn many hats in the law enforcement, from being the Susanville Police Department Evidence Technician, our Community Services Officer, a Lassen County Dispatcher, a Lassen County Correctional Deputy to now, returning to the City of Susanville as our Code enforcement Officer.

Now let me tell you about my good friend Cody. His unique sense of humor just endears him to instantly. He is thoughtful, and funny, and quite possibly the most thorough, detail-oriented individual I have ever met.

The knowledge that guy has is really impressive. (And that’s not even because he reads the Penal Code in his time off… like seriously I have caught him reading that 800-page book for fun).

When I say that guy is thorough, I mean he is absolutely meticulous in what he does, from small tasks to entire projects. If Cody says something will be handled, you never have to worry about it being followed through with.

Perhaps the thing I love most about Cody, besides the fact that he is always willing to feed me and bring me snacks during my pregnancy, is that he is a genuine human being. I have never met someone who sincerely wants to just be helpful as much as my friend Cody.

Whenever Cody is around, he is always willing to step in and help, and is the first to volunteer his time and knowledge, even when the task is difficult. Cody has always been on of my go to guys, and probably always will be.

Over the years I have been lucky enough to have gotten to know Cody outside of work and he is just much as a delight as he is on duty. Cody is dependable and kind. In fact I don’t think I have ever seen Cody say a mean thing to anyone-ever.

Whenever Cody is around, he brings a lightness and positive energy that I have really come to appreciate over the years, and we, at the Police Department really appreciate his energy right now.

Outside of work, Cody is loving son, brother and friend. He enjoys spending time with dog, Ace, and is an avid 49er fan. Cody is the essence of our small town, wrapped into one dynamic person, and I don’t think he realizes how many people love him. He is most certainly, one of the reasons I love the place we live.
