Why We Love This Place Wednesdays: Dawn Egan

By Terra Avilla

I will always feel incredibly blessed by the time I was able to work at Lassen High School as the Resource Officer. Through my time there, I was able meet so many incredibly people. The caliber of humans we have in this community never ceases to amaze me.

The hardest part of my article each week, is not ‘coming up’ with someone or something to write about it, it’s the ‘narrowing it down’ part that is difficult.

This week, as I was planning my article, Dawn Egan’s beautiful face kept appearing to me, and I love me some Dawn Egan, so I took it as a sign to highlight my wonderful friend.

Now, I know without a doubt that you all most likely already know “Mrs. Egan.” Whether it be from her impressively long teaching career at the high school, through her beautiful daughters or just through her comings and goings within the community. (That woman is always doing something marvelous).

I met Mrs. Egan right away when I first started at the school. This striking woman was just as beautiful on the outside as she was on the inside. During my years as SRO I can honestly attest, I never heard anyone, staff or student alike, ever have anything but nice things to say about her as a person and as an educator.

Walking in her class, the feel of it is very welcoming, however the students were always working. And Mrs. Egan always greeted me kindly, with that warm smile and her always polished look.

However, Mrs. Egan is far from just a kind soul and pretty face. She is dang smart and very driven.

Mrs. Egan is active, and highly involved in the high school’s FBLA program which does very well every time they compete at the national level. Her graphic art students always produce top work (one year they even helped me with a fundraising poster, which I greatly appreciated.)

She has a way of building rapport with her students, all while modeling professionalism, with just the right hint of being incredibly down to earth. She is a perfect role model for our students.

When Dawn is not in the classroom, or helping with her family’s ranch, she can usually be seen out and about doing one of her other million-extracurricular activities. One of her most impressive is this woman’s dedication to cross fit. When I say that this woman is in better shape than I could ever hope to be, I mean it. She makes 5:00a.m. workouts, before work, look like cake.

Oh, did I mention she dabbles in her own photography business? The good-hearted woman really can, and does, do it all. She is outstanding in her field.

An amazing mother, and very dedicated wife, she is just as funny as she is intelligent, and is a true asset to our youth and community alike. I am proud to say I know her, and without a doubt, she is one of the reasons I love the place we live.
