The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Lassen, eastern Plumas and Sierra counties, warning that heavy mixed precipitation is possible, with dangerous accumulations of ice, between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning.
Forecasters are warning area residents to expect total snow accumulations of 4 to 10 inches along and east of highway 395, and 8 to 18 inches in the mountains west of Susanville. Ice accumulations of up to a quarter inch are possible in some valley locations.
Power outages and tree damage are possible due to ice and wet snow accumulations. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact travelers at the end of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
Now is the time to prepare an emergency kit for your home and car. If traveling consider alternate plans, remember to carry tire chains, extra food, water and clothing. Once the storm arrives, travel may be difficult or impossible for an extended period of time.
