The Lassen County Probation Department and the Lassen County District Attorney’s office have been working together to reduce truancy in Lassen County.
Currently, according to Supervising Deputy Probation Officer Megan Paterson, there are six criminal complaints filed with the Lassen County Superior Court and three additional criminal complaints at the District Attorney’s office.
“The Lassen County Probation Department encourages parents and guardians to send their children to school on a regular basis,” explains Paterson.
Parents will receive notices explaining their child is truant. It is important to contact the agency sending the notice to determine steps moving forward.
“If your child is ill, make sure to provide the school with doctor’s notes excusing their absences. Failure to follow California Education code could result in a request for a criminal complaint.”
Paterson said that the Probation Department and the school districts are available to support parents and provide resources as needed.
