NWS Weather Bulletin: Red Flag Warning Issued for Today and Tuesday

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds and low humidity, which will be in effect from 2:00p.m., today until 11:00 Tuesday night.

Winds here in the Honey Lake Valley will be at of the southwest at 15 to 20mph with gusts to around 35mph. Higher gusts are possible in wind prone areas and along exposed terrain, even during the overnight period.

Humidity will drop to between 5 and 10 percent for 3 to 6 hours Monday afternoon and then again for 3 to 6 hours Tuesday afternoon. Much longer durations are possible for exposed mid-slopes and ridges, even during the overnight period.

The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.

Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.

Follow local fire restrictions. Check weather.gov/reno for updates and livingwithfire.info for preparedness tips.
