A Susanville Stuff Feature

The local chapter of Pheasants Forever and the Wounded Warrior Project held a special Pheasant hunt for twelve wounded warriors on Saturday December 8, 2012. The event was held at Tom Swickard’s ranch on Mapes Lane in Litchfield.
Isaac Thornton, President of Susanville Pheasants Forever, was the spear head for this event. The hunters were Jonathon Belli, Renato Garza, Anthony Perrini, Carleton Kirkwood, Robert Ross, Blake Martelle, Chris Baughman, Anthony Hixon, Alan Hartman Mike Bente, Ryan Carly and Jeff Denson.
The event was made possible due to the generosity of sponsors, many from Reno and some as far away as Arkansas. Local Sponsors include Pheasants Forever, Five Dot Ranch, Steve’s Shooting Supplies, Western Nevada Supply. Lassen County Sheriff’s Dept., VFW Susanville, Susanville Honor Guard and the Hitchings Ranch.
Local Bird dog experts Trent Bauer, Derek Fletcher and Brit Forrester supplied their dogs for use during the hunt.
“I had the pleasure of joining one of the groups during their hunt and It was amazing to me to see what these dogs can do out in the field. The hunters and dogs working together was quite a treat to watch,” said our sports reporter, Niki Cunningham who was on site for the hunt.
It was a great day for hunting pheasants and a great way to honor our wounded warriors. Through the efforts of these organizations these brave men were able to be thanked for their service to our country, given back a special day for all they gave for us.
