The National Weather Service has issued a warning to residents of Lassen County and northeastern California forecasting record breaking heat and a chance of severe lightning each afternoon and evening this week.
According to the weather service the risk of heat related illness will increase through Wednesday and children, the elderly and people with chronic ailments are the most succeptible to heat.
Pets and livestock, cautions NWS, are also vulnerable and should be cared for properly.
Thunderstorms
Afternoon and evening thunderstorms will develop over the sierra through next week, accompanied by heavy rain, strong outflow winds and hail.
Hazardous Weather Outlook
The National Weather Service has also issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the eastern Sierra, northeast California and western Nevada.
Unseasonably hot conditions will conitnue into Wednesday across the region. The record breaking heat should end by Thursday but conditions will still be warm with afternoon temperatures 5 to 10 degrees above normal.
Thunderstorms will also become more widespread by Tuesday and Wednesday across our area with brief heavy rain expected.
