Tuesday Update: Susanville Interagency Fire Center

Here is your Tuesday morning update on fires burning in the north state from the Susanville Interagency Fire Center.

Firefighters Continue Progress on Day Fire, Some Containment for Bald and Eiler Fires

The more than 1,600 personnel working on the Day Fire are starting to get the upper hand. With only slight growth to 13,047 acres since yesterday, the Day Fire is now 65 percent contained. Full containment of the fire, located northeast of Fall River Mills, is anticipated by Aug. 9.

The Eiler Fire, four miles southeast of Burney, has now burned 28,600 acres on the Lassen National Forest. With containment currently at 20 percent, full containment is projected for Aug. 20. There are 1,171 personnel working on the Eiler Fire.

Evacuations remain in place for the communities of Cassel, Johnson Park and Big Eddy Estates. An evacuation advisory for Burney also remains. Residents should be prepared to evacuate if advised to do so. Evacuation centers are in place at Fall River High School in McArthur and Foothill High School in Palo Cedro.

Eight homes, a business, 20 other buildings, and the historic post office in the Hat Creek Area were lost in the Eiler Fire. There have been no structures lost in the evacuated communities.

Highway 89 remains closed from the junction with Highway 44 at Old Station north to the junction with Highway 299. Highway 299 remained closed this morning from the junction with Highway 89 west to a point 1.2 miles east of Burney. The fire has also forced closures of recreation sites. The Forest has closed the Thousand Lakes Wilderness and the Honn, Rocky and Bridge campgrounds. The Pacific Crest Trail is closed between Highway 44 and Highway 299.

The Bald Fire, southeast of McArthur, has burned 39,850 acres and is 30 percent contained. Containment is anticipated for Aug. 17. An evacuation remains in place for the Little Valley area. No structures have been lost. Nearly 1,000 personnel are assigned to the Bald Fire.
