Holly Ann Streible, 72, passed away on July 1, 2015 at Atria Senior Living in Reno, Nevada, where she had resided over the past year. We are grateful to Gentiva Hospice and Atria for their great care at the end of her life.
She leaves behind her daughter, Valerie (Streible) Ballestrasse and her husband, David, of San Bruno, California; her son, Chad Streible and his wife, Mary Jo (Murphy) Streible and three grandchildren, Stacy Lynn, Kara Juanita Ann, Cameron James and great grandchild, Antonio James, of Susanville, California; plus her favorite uncle, Robert Brown and his daughter Charlene Neilsen, of Fresno, California, and there are many relatives from all over the USA.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Chester ‘Chet’ Allen Streible, brother, Michael Dale Sellers and parents, Dale and Ruth Sellers.
Holly was born in Hutchenson, Kansas to Ruth and Dale Sellers on May 16, 1943. The first few years of her life her mom and she spent with her dad’s mom in Oklahoma, while he was in the Navy during World War II.
During her childhood her parents moved around a lot due to her allergies and asthma with the changing of the seasons. She attended Folsom High School, American River Junior College, Sacramento State, Lake Superior College and Lassen Community College.
Holly was a designated Hospital Candy Striper and won Folsom Festival Queen and Miss Folsom County. She married the love of her life, Chet on March 18, 1962 at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA at the age of 18. The Air Force tried to talk them out of marrying so young, but they were persist and their loving marriage lasted for 48 years, until Chet’s passing.
She and Chet enjoyed traveling the world through the Air Force living in places like Japan, Hawaii, Turkey and all over the USA. They choose to live off base, whenever possible, to enjoy the culture.
They had their first child, Valerie in 1964 and second child Chad in 1970. Holly was a stay at home mom, until the kids were in school, then she worked at the kid’s schools helping out. She had many part time jobs over the years, so she would be home with the kids after school.
She retired out of City Hall in Susanville, California in the early 1990’s. Her favorite job was at Western Tri Pack, as a secretary to the manager at the time. When her husband retired 20 years later from the Air Force, they fell in love with the Lassen County area, the American Legion with it’s auxiliary, local friends and coworkers. So they stayed to make a permanent home in Standish.
She was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary who loved to paint, make pottery on the wheel, read and use computers. She also loved the family ranch out at Standish, her kids and grandchildren. When her husband, Chet passed on May 21, 2010, she moved into assisted living. She was never the same without her best friend and life love ‘Chet.’
We believe she is finally at rest and peace with her love again.
There will be a memorial for Holly Ann Streible, on August 1, 2015 at 11:00a.m. located at the Standish Bible Church in Standish. Following the service everyone will go to the Diamond Crest Veterans’ Cemetery for a military interment for Chet and final rest for Holly. They did not want anything after, so we are respecting their wishes.
