On August 9th Deputies of the Lassen County Sheriffs Office took a report of a missing 12 year old boy. The child was a recent foster home placement in Janesville. Janesville is a largely agricultural area which consists of hay fields, streams, and a dry lake bed which is located to the south.
According to his guardian the child went outside to play. He was wearing a black t-shirt with a bright green design on the front, black basketball type shorts, and black tennis shoes. A short time later when the guardian went to get him for dinner she discovered he was gone. She searched the immediate area and called the Sheriff’s Office.
A report was taken by a deputy and a ‘BOLO’ was broadcast to inform other law enforcement personnel of the missing child. The child was entered into the law enforcements missing and unidentified persons data base and the Department of Justice was notified. Deputies continued to search the area during the night.
On August 10th Lassen County Deputies continued to search the area and speak to residents. Lassen County Search and Rescue was activated and conducted a search that evening. Their search was of an area directly behind the residence, into fields and up to the lake bed.
The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office is classifying this missing child as ‘at risk’ because of his age and unfamiliarity with the area. It is possible the child may be trying to get to Shasta County where he had been living and has friends.
