weatherupdate

There is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 1:00p.m. Friday through noon on Saturday.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow which is expected to develop over western Lassen County and along Highway 44 Friday afternoon, spreading south over eastern Plumas and Sierra counties in the evening.

3 to 8 inches of snow is forecast above 5000 feet west of Highway 395. One to 4 inches is expected below 5000 feet west of Highway 395 with the highest snow totals near Portola and Sierraville.

Friday afternoon snow levels will start out at 5000 to 5,500 feet, falling to valley floors by Saturday morning.

The NWS warns that travel delays with chain requirements are likely south and west of Susanville. This includes highways 89 near Portola, 36 and 44 near Bogard, as well as over Fredonyer and Yuba passes.

Even light snow call cause major travel delays, especially during periods of high traffic volume. Be sure to allow extra time to reach your destination. Leave extra space between vehicles since it takes longer to stop on slick roadways. Always check with caltrans for the latest road conditions before traveling.
