The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory warning Susanville and northeastern California residents to prepare for a spring storm that is forecast to bring snow and rain to the valley beginning this afternoon.
Snow and rain will continue through Thursday morning, with a period of moderate to heavy snow tonight.
Forecasters expect snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches with localized totals up to 1 foot mainly west of Highway 395 above the 5,500 foot elevation. Below
5,500 feet we could see up to 4 inches by morning.
Snow Levels will start out at 6,500 feet this evening, lowering to 5,000-5,500 feet late tonight, and near most valley floors by Thursday morning.
Winds will be out of the south to southwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Gusts up to 55 mph could occur in wind prone areas such as Highway 395 between Susanville and the Nevada state line tonight.
Snow will likely produce slick and hazardous conditions with poor visibility at times tonight into Thursday morning, especially for higher elevation highways and passes. This includes Fredonyer Summit, Yuba Pass, and Highway 44 west of Susanville.
