It’s a busy night for fire crews as resources are being deployed to lightning-caused fires along the eastern edge of Lassen County. A massive wall of thunderstorms formed at the east end of the Honey Lake Valley around 1:00p.m., triggering brush fires in a line that extends from Portola north to Modoc County. Particularly hard hit where Ravendale, Little Mud Flat, Herlong and Doyle.

Currently strike crews are battling a large fire, the Mud incident, north of the Wendel power plant. Smoke from that blaze is visible in a column from Susanville.

Another brush fire is burning on Pole Line road in Herlong. The fire is approaching Simms road and according to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department it is not threatening structures at this time.

Overwhelming the valley is smoke from the Ponderosa fire burning near Oroville. Smoke from the 500+ acre fire blew into the valley starting about 4:00p.m.

There are a multitude of smaller, lightning-sparked fires burning near the Nevada border in the desert areas of Lassen County.

We will continue updating this post as new fire information comes in this evening. -jc
