BLM Announces Openings for Northern California Firefighting Positions

The U. S. Bureau of Land Management is accepting applications for summer seasonal firefighting jobs on Northern California fire engine crews, the Diamond Mountain Interagency Hotshots, and in other positions including dispatching, fire prevention/mitigation and fire lookout.

All applications must be filed over the internet at www.usajobs.gov.

To receive early consideration, applications for hotshot crew positions must be filed by Dec. 8th, 2015. The deadline is January 29th, 2016.

The early consideration deadline for firefighter jobs is January 12th, 2016, and the final deadline is March 29th, 2016.

The early consideration deadline for the dispatching job is January 19th, 2016 and the final deadline is February 29th, 2016.

Applications for the fire lookout and fire prevention/mitigation jobs will receive early consideration if received by January 12th, 2016. The final application deadline is March 1st, 2016 for both positions.

Job announcements, including qualifications, salaries, application instructions and application deadlines, are available at www.usajobs.gov. Applicants should look for announcement numbers BLM-FIRE-2016-002 and 2016-003 (hotshots), BLM-FIRE-2016-005 (firefighter), BLM –FIRE 2016-031-DE (lead firefighter), BLM-FIRE 2016-029 (dispatcher), BLM-FIRE 2016-040 (fire lookout) and BLM-FIRE 21016-046 (prevention/mitigation).

“We recommend that people apply early to have the best chance at landing one of these jobs,” said BLM Northern California District Fire Management Officer Walter Herzog.

BLM’s Northern California firefighters work at stations in Susanville, Ravendale, Alturas, Cedarville and Whitethorn (King Range National Conservation Area on California’s North Coast). They work in a season that usually runs from June through mid-October. The hotshot crew is based in Susanville.
