The U. S. Bureau of Land Management is accepting nominations for membership on a newly formed Northern California District Resource Advisory Council, a citizen group that advises the agency on management of public lands and natural resources. There are 15 vacancies and the deadline for nominations is March 27th.
Seats are open in the following membership categories:
Category one: Public land ranchers and representatives of organizations associated with energy and mineral development, timber, transportation and rights of way, off-highway vehicle use, and commercial recreation.
Category two: Representatives of regional or national environmental organizations, archaeological and historical interests, wild horse and burro interests, and dispersed recreation activities.
Category three: Local, state or county elected officials, representatives of state agencies involved in natural resources, representatives of Native American tribes within the council’s area of interest, teachers involved in natural resources or sciences, and the public at large.
For each category there are seats open for terms of one, two and three years. Those appointed may reapply for membership when terms expire. Individuals may nominate themselves or others. Nominees must be residents of northern California or northwest Nevada and should demonstrate a commitment to collaborative decision making on natural resource issues, and knowledge of the RAC’s geographic area of interest. Nominations must include letters of support.

The RAC works closely with BLM managers in Arcata, Alturas, Cedarville, Susanville and Redding, providing guidance on the full range of the BLM’s responsibilities on public land in northern California and far northwest Nevada.
The United States secretary of the interior makes appointments to the 15-member council.
