A Chico woman suffered major injuries in a two-vehicle collision Sunday on Highway 36, just west of Highway 89, according to details released by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol.
At around 2:45p.m., the driver of a 2008 Subaru Impreza, identified by the CHP as 21-year old Chico resident Kelsey Faytek, was traveling eastbound on Highway 36, with a K-9 passenger.
At the same time 28-year old Chico resident Ross Neely was traveling westbound on the highway with three passengers in his 2017 Ford F-150.
For unknown reasons Faytek allowed her Subaru to travel into the westbound lane directly in front of Neely’s Ford. Before Neely or Faytek could react the Subaru and the Ford collided.
The Subaru began to rotate in a counter-clockwise direction and traveled eastbound in the westbound lane until coming to rest in the westbound lane facing a northerly direction.
The Ford spun across the eastbound lane and onto the roadway’s south shoulder before coming to rest facing a northerly direction.
Faytek sustained major injuries and had to be extricated from the Subaru by emergency personnel on scene. She was then transported to the Chester airport where she was flown to Enloe Medical Center for further treatment of her injuries. Faytek was wearing her lap and shoulder harness.
Neely’s passenger complained of slight pain to her right forearm. She was evaluated on scene and released.
The two adult occupants of the Ford were wearing their lap and shoulder harnesses. Two minors in the truck were properly strapped into their car seats and sustained no injuries.
Alcohol is not suspected as being a factor in this collision.
