A Standish man was arrested for driving under the influence Wednesday afternoon after his 2013 Hyundai collided with a utility pole near Lake Leavitt Road.
According to details provided by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol, a man identified as 36-year old Justin Poteete was driving north on US-395 when, “due to his high level of alcohol intoxication,” he lost control of the Hyundai, which veered off the highway and struck a wooden utility pole.
The collision caused moderate right-front damage to the Hyundai and snapped the pole at its base.
After striking the pole the car continued on through a wire fence, causing more damage before coming to rest on private property.
Poteete returned to his residence immediately after the collision and contacted CHP.
When a CHP officer arrived at the residence a few minutes later Poteete was found be under the influence of alcohol, and was subsequently arrested for suspicion of DUI.
Poteete suffered minor injuries and was transported to Banner Lassen Lassen Hospital where he was medically cleared. He was then booked into the Lassen County Jail for driving the under the influence of alcohol.
