A search for a missing motorist by the California Highway Patrol and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office lead to the discovery of a fatal accident scene along Highway 395, in a field 150 yards from the roadway Saturday night.
According to details released by the CHP today, the agency’s Susanville Communication Center received a call of an overdue party en route from Susanville to Reno at around 9:00p.m. Saturday.
The CHP and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office had officers respond and begin checking local roadways including Highway 36, County road A-3 and US-395 for the missing 2010 Volkswagen.
Shortly before midnight a CHP Officer observed a vehicle matching the description of the overdue party from earlier in the night off the east edge of US-395. The officer approached the vehicle on foot and determined it to be a fatal traffic collision.
Killed in the crash, according to the CHP report, was the vehicle’s single occupant, 46 year-old Reno resident Jacob Green.
The cause of this accident is under investigation.
