Lassen Crime Stoppers, a nonprofit that allows citizens to leave anonymous crime tips for potential cash rewards, will be holding its first fundraiser this Saturday in historic uptown Susanville. The ‘Jail N Bail’ Wine Walk will feature fine wines and beer at 14 uptown locations.
Participants can swear out a ‘wine walk warrant’ against individuals who will be tossed into an uptown jail until their bail is paid. The money, of course, all goes a good cause – work the Lassen Crime Stoppers group does throughout the year to help reduce crime in Lassen County.
From 2:00 until 5:00p.m. Wine Walk ticket holders can visit locations all around uptown to taste handcrafted beer and fine wines. If you get hungry some locations in uptown will have food and refreshments.
A Wine Walk ‘jail’ is being constructed in the vacant lot at 706 Main Street and when a warrant is sworn out the authorities will toss the offender into the clink. At least until the proper donation is made to the Crime Stoppers’ coffers.
How Does Crime Stoppers Work?
Each week the Lassen Crime Stoppers publish a list of people who are wanted by local law enforcement or ask for information from the public about a crime. People who have information call a special tip line (1.530.502.TIPS) and anonymously give information to authorities. If the tip turns out to be valuable for investigators it can be worth as much as $1,000 for the caller. Payments are also made through anonymous channels.
Lassen Crime Stoppers is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization it depends upon fundraising events and donations to be able to continue performing its essential work for the community.
Presale tickets for the ‘Sip Wine, Fight Crime’ Wine Walk are $30 and are available at Margie’s Book Nook, Lassen Ale Works and Uptown Uniforms. The first 115 ticket buyers will receive a commemorative 2017 wine glass. Tickets the day of the event will be $35.
