Elections Office Sets Schedule for Testing, Counting, and Auditing November Ballots

The Lassen County Clerk-Recorder’s Office has released the schedule of public election procedures for the upcoming November 3rd, General Election, outlining when and where ballots will be tested, tallied and audited.

All listed procedures will take place at the Lassen County Elections Office, located behind the Historic Courthouse at 220 South Lassen Street, Suite 5, here in Susanville.

Before any votes are counted, election officials must test the machines to ensure every ballot is recorded accurately. Under California Elections Code, the county will conduct Logic and Accuracy Testing beginning Wednesday, October 14th.

This process verifies that each tabulating device is working properly and meets California Secretary of State standards ahead of Election Day.

Election Night Central Count

When polls close on Tuesday, November 3rd, official ballot counting will begin at 8:00p.m. at the Central Count location at the Elections Office.

Following the election, the department will perform a mandatory one percent manual tally to verify the accuracy of the automated voting machines. This audit checks paper ballots—including vote-by-mail ballots—by hand against machine results:

Precinct Selection: Officials will randomly select the precincts for the audit on Wednesday, November 4th at 4:00p.m. If any contested race is not represented in the initial draw, an additional precinct will be selected specifically to audit that race.

Hand Count: The public manual tally of the chosen precincts will begin Thursday, November 5th, at 9:00a.m.
