Glenora Whitlock Sharrow – March 5, 2022

Glenora Whitlock Sharrow April 30, 1924 – March 5, 2022.

Glenora was born to Jesse and Jenny Whitlock, April 30, 1924, in Firebaugh, California and passed away at her home in Susanville, California. Her father worked in the oil fields on the Carissa Plains, and the company moved the family many times. Glenora often commented that she attended 13 different schools, eventually graduating from Taft High School, and attending Taft Junior College. Her best childhood memories were the family gatherings with her loved cousins.

During World War II she worked as a chemist for Standard Oil. She met the love of her life, Lawrence Sharrow, who was in the Navy and stationed at Mare Island. They were married, February 21, 1944. Larry and Glenora welcomed four children, Phillip, Priscilla, David and Donna. The family lived in North Sacramento and later moved to Rio Linda, California. They had a mail route and delivered mail to the Gold Country. In 1960, they sold the mail route, the five acre farm in Rio Linda and moved to Cedarville, California, becoming full-time farmers. Glenora’s greatest joy was cooking for others, first for harvesting crews on the Carissa Plains, later at Surprise Valley High School and the hospital in Cedarville.

After the death of Larry, she moved to Susanville to be near her daughter, Donna. Glenora’s hobbies were rock collecting, quilt making, attending Thi Chi class, and taking care of grandsons, Victor and James. She said they kept her young.

Glenora was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lawrence “Larry” Sharrow, brothers Robert and Leon “Boots” Whitlock and beloved niece Bobbi Whitlock-Couts. She is survived by her children, Phillip (Mikell) Sharrow, of Forest Ranch, California, Priscilla Sharrow, of Bellingham, Washington, David Sharrow, Crescent Valley, Nevada, and Donna Sharrow Melander, Janesville, California, and much loved son-in-law Daniel Najera of El Granada, California. Surviving grandchildren include Larissa (Tyler) Najera-Lavering, Marcus (Jen) Najera, Walter Sharrow, Virginia “Ginger”(Daniel) Swire, Victor Melander, and James Melander. She is also survived by much loved nieces Dianne Hutchens, and her daughters, Kimberly, Kristen, and Kell, Lillie Whitlock Merritt, and Ruthie Whitlock Allen. She loved her special friends Franz, Marjorie, Julie and Anne Lattka, Dianna Winkler and Judy Barnet.

Glenora was laid to rest on March 14, with a 10:00 am Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Susanville, California, followed by same day graveside services and burial in the Cedarville Cemetery, next to the love of her life, Larry. She is now “Resting in the Arms of God”
