Lassen County, along with staff from the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, is investigating a cyber attack that reportedly compromised the county’s system, but according to officials did not expose personal information.
The incident was discovered on December 20th when staff, according to Deputy County Administrative Officer Tony Shaw, “became aware of unauthorized activity on the County’s computer network.”
“County staff then began implementing several measures to contain and mitigate the cybersecurity incident, including resetting all access, isolating servers where appropriate and monitoring the network to counter further intrusion.”
The county, said Shaw, is continuing to utilize in-house and other resources to investigate and identify the source and scope of the activity. There is no evidence that personal information was compromised.
In addition to County resources, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services is providing assistance.
