The National Weather Service has issued an advisory warning of colder temperatures and light snow Thursday afternoon through Friday…

According to the Reno office of the National Weather Service, Lassen County residents can expect to see snow Thursday afternoon through Friday morning…

A band of light snow is expected to develop behind a strong cold front. The best chances for heavier snowfall will be for a few hours after the cold front passes on Thursday. Snow will begin across the Sierra Thursday afternoon and then spread across western Nevada Thursday evening.

In the Sierra and the Lake Tahoe basin 2-3 inches is predicted below 7000 feet and 3 to 6 inches above 7000 feet. For western Nevada valleys expect up to 2 inches of snow by Friday morning.

Snow Friday…

For the Sierra and most of western Nevada, snow showers are possible through Friday. Stronger showers may bring up to 2 inches of additional snow.

Southwest winds will increase Thursday ahead of the cold front with gusts up to 40 mph in valleys and up to 75 mph across Sierra ridges. Wind speeds will be similar Friday but wind directions will shift from southwest to north. Temperatures will be much colder Friday and combined with gusty winds will create cold conditions with wind chills generally in the 20s and teens.

Impacts…

Slick roads are possible Thursday evening… especially later in the evening as Road surfaces cool after sunset. Dangerous road conditions are more likely for the Friday morning commute as temperatures continue to fall overnight.
