Kay was born in 1938 in Susanville, CA, to Marguerite & Nolan Hallowell. She attended Lassen High School, Reno Business College, Stanford, and graduated with a degree in Social Work from University of Nevada. She retired from Washoe Medical Center after many years as a social worker there. Kay was married for 52 years to Robert T. McDonald, until his death, and several years later formed a close companionship with former high school classmate Russell (Rusty) Milton.
Kay was curious about everyone and everything, and liked to travel. Travel highlights were a train trip through the Canadian Rockies, cruises to Alaska and down the Rhine River, trips to Scotland, Ireland, and Cuba. Kay is survived by daughters Liz Delia (Rob) and Jill McDonald (Joe Jess Iturri), grandson Anselmo Iturri, and nephews Steve McDonald and J.R. McDonald.
