Lassen Forest’s Post Dixie Fire Recovery and Restoration Continues

The Lassen National Forest has begun a 30-day scoping period through June 7th, for the Dixie Postfire Restoration and Recovery Project.

In September and October of 2023, the proposed Dixie Fire Community Protection and Swain Mountain Experimental Forest Vegetation Management Project went through the public scoping process.

That proposal focused on treating areas impacted by the Dixie Fire within and around adjacent communities, including the wildland-urban interface.

Based on public scoping comments received, the Lassen National Forest reevaluated the scope of the project to assess the Dixie Fire area at a landscape level, resulting in the expansion of the project area to include most of the Dixie Fire perimeter within Lassen National Forest (excluding areas undergoing other planning efforts).

This redeveloped Proposed Action replaces the previous proposal and offers a new public scoping period.

The Dixie Postfire Restoration and Recovery Project is being planned within Almanor, Hat Creek, and Eagle Lake ranger districts of the Lassen National Forest. It proposes to implement fuels and forest health treatments and a range of proposed activities to reduce public health and safety risks and restore healthy ecosystems that are resilient to future wildfire, climate change, pests, pathogens, and other stressors.

Information about the Dixie Postfire Restoration and Recovery Project and a link to the StoryMap are available by following this link to the Forest Service’s webpage.
