Lassen National Forest is implementing a Forest Order closing Forest Service managed roads around the area of the Hog Fire to protect public health and safety. The Hog Fire is exhibiting extreme fire behavior and has grown to over 9,000 acres. This Order is effective from July 21, 2020, through October 31, 2020.
The Hog Fire Closure Area boundary begins at the intersection of County Highway A21 and Highway 36, then continues north along Highway A21 to its intersection with the 101 Road, then continues northeast along the 101 Road to its intersection with Highway 44, then continues southeast along Highway 44 to its intersection with Highway 36, then continues west along Highway 36.
“The Hog Fire Closure Order facilitates unimpeded ingress and egress for fire and other emergency responders, as well as owners, lessees, and residents of land in the area,” said Leslie Ross, Acting Forest Supervisor. It also limits the public exposure to fire danger and impaired visibility due to smoke.
A consultation was done externally with the CALFIRE Lassen Modoc Unit and local law enforcement cooperators. USFS employees with areas of expertise in fire management prevention, law enforcement, and public affairs were all contacted and involved in developing the proposed closure order wording and exhibit.
