LMUD 2013 Student Art Calendar Deadline Extended

Lassen Municipal Utility District has extended the deadline for entries in their 2013 ‘Student Art Calendar’ to November 26th. This will give kids, who may still be working on their artwork, a little extra time during the Thanksgiving holiday.

“Each year the Student Art Calendar entries just keep getting better and better,” explains LMUD Energy Services Specialist Theresa Phillips, “We’re extending the deadline this year so that everyone who wants to enter has the chance to do so.”

The 2012 calendar was a huge success with over 250 Lassen County kindergarten to sixth graders submitting entries. The artwork submitted by the students depicted various electrical safety issues and situations.

One student illustrated the dangers of playing next to an electric substation, another student depicted a tree being trimmed next to overhead power lines and another showed how water and electrical devices don’t mix.

The winners will not only be featured in the 2013 calendar, but they will also receive a gift certificate and will be honored at the Public Power celebration held at the LMUD office in early December.

Phillips explains the benefits of the annual showcase. “LMUD’s Student Art Calendar is a great way for kids to learn about electrical safety and also to express their creativity through art.”

Jordan Atkinson reminds people that, “A blown transformer can cause a serious injury or even death” in his award winning entry into the 2009 calendar contest

Lassen Municipal Utility District is proud to be a part of the educational experience of Lassen County children, they strive to promote electrical safety and energy conservation by sponsoring events like the Lassen County Children’s Fair, the Lassen County Science Fair, the Redding Regional Science Bowl and the Lassen County Fair.

Remember too that the LMUD staff is happy to visit local groups, organizations and schools with their High Voltage Safety Demonstration and Conservation Education program. There is no charge for this service.

Submit your child’s art work with the theme “Stay Clear and Stay Alive” to the LMUD office on Roop Street by 4:30p.m. on Monday the 26th.
