Lively the Mail Says
April 29, 1886
Susanville is the “liveliest town in the mountains.” Ten stores full of new goods and doing a rushing business.
Both blacksmith shops crowded with work, mechanics all busy, stables and hotels all full.
Dressmakers and milliners all busy fitting out prospective brides.
Butcher shops and barber shops, or rather meat markets and printing offices, all busy; everybody busy except the doctors.
This is the town for us.
