St. Patrick’s Day Dance at Story Club Friday Night
March 17, 1939
For many weeks the Catholic Ladies of the Sacred Heart Parish of Susanville have been busy preparing for the annual entertainment to be given next Friday evening at 8 o’clock at the Story Club in honor of St. Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint.
The ladies promise a high class program equal to or even surpassing those of other years.
The event opening at 8 o’clock Friday night will begin with an Irish Concert. This will last for one hour, during which many selections of Irish songs and dances will be presented.
The melodies of “Old Erin” will be rendered by well known local artists, while many familiar Irish songs such as “Mother McCree,” “Come Back to Erin,” “where the River Shannon Flows” and “My Wild Irish Rose” will be offered by local singers.
The Lassen Serenaders will join in during the concert period to offer the audience stirring Irish airs and melodies.
At 9 o’clock the grand St. Patrick’s Ball will begin. Music will be supplied by the Lassen Serenaders’ full orchestra for this period.
Taking it all in, the signs at the writing forecast a big evening of rare amusement and choice entertainment, not soon to be forgotten.
