Demolition of Old Bank of America Building
March 18, 1971
This giant crane from the Reno Iron Works this week has been relentlessly demolishing the old Bank of America building at the corner of Main and Gay Streets to make way for the new parking area which will adjoin the recently completed new Susanville branch of the Bank of America.
The above picture was taken on Wednesday afternoon toward the rear of the building on Gay Street. Hundreds of spectators were on hand earlier Wednesday morning as the crane removed part of the coping on the front of the building revealing the name of Lassen Industrial Bank, predecessor of the Bank of America in Susanville. Demolition is being done by the American Demolition Co. of Sacramento and is expected to be completed within about 10 days.
