Theatre Crowded to Witness 20-30 Amateur Night

The Sierra Theatre found itself crowded beyond capacity last night as spectators sat in the aisles and crowded the foyer of the theater to witness the talent of this community’s amateurs perform at the 20-30 Amateur show.
The Four Musical Rascals took first prize of $25 given by the Twenty-Thirty Club. Kenneth Hansen at the piano, Del Mortimer on the drums, Harry Cella playing the piano accordion and with Sammy Ferano swinging out notes on the clarinet, this young quartet was given a popular judge’s decision as the top entertainment of the night.
Clarence Potter and Preston Smith from the Digger Butte CCC camp, playing violin and guitar, won second prize of one month’s free pass to the Sierra Theater.
The pass was exchanged for a prize of $12 by the club, because the boys live at too great a distance from Susanville to use the pass.
Five dollar prizes were awarded to the Four Silvas, Ted Rodgers, Louis Thompson, Rosie Sacco, Jaimie Lewis, Kenneth Hansen, Bill Wambold, Creed Gammel, Jane Wentworth, The Westerners, consisting of Carolyn Hill, Jimmy Ducasse, Marcella Mathews and Natalie Espinosa; Barbara Shults, Harry Chiarello, Chesley Agee, Robert Cromwell, Lane Denton, Howard Taylor, B. Netercott and Muriel McQueen, Teddy Rogers and Leo and Jack Newell, Ray Etcheto, Daryl French, the Westwood Hy Yis, and Rene Bressalini.
Those who were winners of $2.50 prizes; Erma June Hehbein and David Winchester, Howard Taylor and Velasquez, Mercedes and Rose Newell with Jack Newell, Jack Wentworth, and Armand Helbert.
All the $5 and $2.50 prizes were awarded by merchants of Susanville, without whose help this Amateur Show could not have been the success it was said to be by the spectators.
The 20-30 Club wishes to express its thanks to all those merchants who contributed prizes.
