Country Club Robbed Last Night
October 14, 1926
Thieves entered the Susanville Country Club House last Monday night and stole the radio, battery and loudspeaker from downstairs, and stripped the five up-stairs bedrooms of all bed clothing.
They gained entrance to the linen closet by means of a pass key and took five valuable Navajo rugs, four eiderdown quilts, worth about $50 apiece and other linen.
The loss is estimated at approximately $750.
The thieves apparently parked their car at the top of the hill towards Janesville and carried their swag from the club house to the car.
They had prepared the way for their robbery by poisoning the dog the day before, so that the barking would not waken the caretaker, who slept in the house in the rear of the main building.
The club silverware was saved, as it was in the safe deposit vault, in town.
