The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued a Fire Weather Watch for eastern Lassen County and surrounding areas
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Fire Weather Watch for gusty winds and low humidity, which is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening and again Thursday afternoon and evening.
Areas under the fire watch include Surprise Valley, eastern Lassen County, western Nevada Sierra Front, west-central Nevada Basin and Range and Northern Washoe County.
Forecasters expect valley winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts around 30 mph. Slope and Ridge Winds will peak at around 35 mph.
Humidity will drop to between 7 and 15%.
The severe fire danger is expected to continue through the afternoon hours into the evening and the combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
