The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Watch, which will be in effect from late Thursday night through Saturday morning.
Forecasters expect rain and snow will move into Lassen and Plumas counties by early Friday morning, with a period of heavy snow Friday afternoon into Saturday morning.
Snow accumulations may reach a foot or more west of Highway 395, and up to 6 inches along and east of Highway 395.
Winds will be out of the southwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Gusts to 60 mph are possible in wind prone sections of Highway 395.
Snow levels will start out near 5000 feet Friday, then lower to valley floors by Friday evening.
Very poor visibility with whiteout conditions likely, dangerous conditions for back country activities and travel on Highways 36, 44, 70, 89, 139 and 395.
