NWS Weather Bulletin: Winter Storm Watch for Tuesday and Wednesday

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Lassen, eastern Plumas and Sierra counties, warning that heavy snow is possible, even down to the valley floor, this Tuesday and Wednesday.

Forecasters say that up to a foot of snow is possible in the high terrain west of Highway 395 with decent accumulation possible for populated lower elevations as well.

Although the storm is supposed to have impacts from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon, at this time the worst conditions are expected to be Tuesday night through Wednesday.

Travel could be very difficult. The cold nature of this storm will lead to accumulating snow at all elevations, not just pass levels.

This storm is coinciding with one of the busiest travel periods of the year. With heavy snow possible, travel impacts could be significant. Be sure to have tire chains, proper footwear, warm clothing, blankets and extra food and water.

Now is the time to prepare an emergency kit for your home and car. If traveling consider alternate plans, remember to carry tire chains, extra food, water and clothing. Once the storm arrives, travel may be difficult or impossible for an extended period of time.
