

A Sun Valley, Nevada man was killed and five others were injured early Tuesday morning in a major head-on collision on Highway 395 near Constantia Road, south of Doyle.
According to details released by Lieutenant Lacey Carney, Susanville CHP Area Commander, the crash occurred at approximately 6:05a.m. when a 2025 Chrysler van was traveling northbound on US-395 and, for reasons still under investigation, it drove into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a red 2014 Toyota pickup. Both vehicles came to rest on the southbound shoulder of the highway.
A passenger in the Chrysler van sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The driver of the van, identified as 43-year-old Sade Knight of Sparks, Nevada, sustained major injuries and was transported to Renown Medical Center.
The remaining passengers in the van, who included residents from Reno, Sparks and Susanville, also suffered major injuries and were transported to Renown Medical Center. Among the passengers was 37-year-old Susanville resident Baron Badillo Jr. who received major injuries.
The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota pickup, identified as 52-year-old Candelario Alverez Loz of Truckee, was also transported to Renown Medical Center with major injuries.
The name of the passenger who was fatally injured is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and will be released by the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office Coroner at a later date.
According to Lieutenant Carney the investigation into the collision is ongoing. If anyone has information, witnessed either vehicle on the roadway prior to the crash, or witnessed the collision itself, you are asked to call CHP Dispatch at 1.530.252.1900.
The Susanville CHP expressed its gratitude to Doyle Fire, SIAD Fire, REMSA, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, CALTRANS, and the numerous good Samaritans who stopped to assist the victims at the scene.
