A detached garage in front of a residence in the 300 block of Pardee Avenue was heavily damaged Monday when a fire, determined to have been cause by welding equipment being used in the garage, quickly engulfed the structure.
According to details provided by the Susanville Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to the fire shortly before 5:00p.m., with initial reports indicating that there were possibly victims trapped in the burning building.
“Upon arrival, the first due Engine Company reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the detached garage in front of the residence,” explains SFD Fire Captain Robert H. Brown Jr.
“Quick and aggressive firefighting efforts were performed, the fire was contained and extinguished to the detached structure.”
There were no occupants in the structure and all occupants of the home were accounted for.
The detached garage suffered heavy smoke and fire damage to the structure.
“Upon investigation, the cause of the fire was determined to be from an electrical welder being used in the garage.”
Susanville Fire Department was assisted by the following agencies: Susanville Police Dept., Cal Fire LCSO, and Susan River Fire Protection.
Total equipment committed to the incident included 5-Chief Officers, 2 engines, 1 truck and 3 Susanville Police Department units.
