A CHP pursuit, which reached speeds of over 80 mph through Susanville’s Main Street earlier this afternoon, has now turned into a manhunt after the fleeing suspect abandoned his vehicle and fled into the woods on foot near Goodrich Creek on Highway 36.

The pursuit began at around 1:00p.m. on the eastern outskirts of Susanville, up Main Street and then exited town travelling westbound on Highway 36. Law enforcement backed off from the chase within the city limits after the suspect reached a high rate of speed and put other motorists in danger.

The suspect is identified by the Sheriff’s Department as 23-year old Chico resident Skyler Michael Banner and is described as having blond hair and blue eyes, 6 foot tall and weighs 160 pounds.

He is currently wanted for felony evading with disregard for others safety, along with having an outstanding arrest warrant out of another county.

“We ask if you see this person you notify the Sheriff’s Office immediately,” said Sergeant Kevin Jones, “He was last seen headed in the direction of the Westwood area, but his exact direction of travel is unknown.”

A search is underway with the assistance of CHP, BLM and CHP Helicopter H14 out of Redding.
