Sheriff’s Office Details Leavitt Lake Incident

The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office has released details of the July 18th incident which sent three to the hospital, one with a gunshot wound.

According to Captain Matthew McFarland of the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 5:30a.m. members of the Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol and the Susanville Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing which had occurred on Buffum Lane in the Leavitt Lake area.

Upon arrival, Captain McFarland reports, California Highway Patrol officers located a man, later identified as 38 year-old James Lee Brown III, laying in the roadway with an apparent gunshot wound.

Brown was transported to Banner Lassen Medical Center by medical personnel, treated for his injuries, and later released.

At the residence, Sheriff’s Office personnel were directed to an adult male subject who was identified as 23 year-old Michael Brandon Spillers. Spillers had multiple lacerations on his head and upper body and was flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno, treated for his injuries, and released.

An infant also sustained minor injuries and was transported to Banner Lassen Medical Center. She was treated for her injuries and released.

Joseph Allen Seabourn, was subsequently arrested and charged with Assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm. The case is still pending investigation.

McFarland said that officers responded from the Susanville Police Department, the California Highway Patrol and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and he thanked the agencies for their assistance.
