Investigators looking into the theft a vehicle in Susanville on June 1st arrested three valley residents on a variety of charges according to details released Tuesday by the Susanville Police Department.

The owner of the 2018 Jeep Renegade had parked the vehicle in a parking lot on Russell Avenue around 11:00 the night before and discovered it missing the next morning. She also told police that there was a handgun in the Jeep when it was taken.

At around 7:00 that evening the Susanville CHP Communications Center was contacted by the owner of the Jeep who advised that she had been contacted by On-Star, who had disabled the Jeep, and it was located in Wendel. CHP responded to her location. The handgun that was previously reported in the vehicle was missing.

At 9:56p.m. a CHP Officer contacted a male walking in Standish, on US 395 near County Road A-3.

“The officer witnessed the male drop a baggie, suspected to be some type of drug,” explained Susanville Police Chief Kevin Jones. “Further investigation by the officer revealed the man possessed personal items belonging to the owner of the vehicle that was stolen in this case.”

The man, identified by the Police Department as 32-year old Susanville resident Shane Haworth, was arrested by CHP for drug possession and investigation of vehicle theft.

“As the investigation continued, an SPD Task Force Agent obtained a search warrant for a residence in Standish, seeking the weapon that was still outstanding from the Jeep.”

In the early afternoon of June 2nd members of the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Susanville CHP, HDSP ISU and the Susanville Police Department combined to execute the search warrant in Standish.

“After a successful warrant execution of the target residence and recovery of the weapon that was in the stolen vehicle, two people were ultimately arrested,” said Jones.

25 year-old Janesville resident Jessica Speed, was arrested for possession of hypodermic needles and methamphetamine. 37-year old Standish resident James Judlin was arrested for multiple counts of a felon in possession of firearm, defacing a firearm and possession of stolen property. Both were booked into the Lassen County Jail and held on bail.

Hayworth was arrested by the Susanville Area CHP for vehicle theft, drug possession and weapon charges.

“This was a fantastic collaborative effort by all our agencies,” said Chief Jones.
