Renegades Finish in Final Four
The Susanville Renegades traveled to Reno to play in the twenty four team Muckdog Tournament. They faced teams from all over the west coast and won their six team bracket before losing in the final four semis to San Leandro 8-5. They finished with a 5-1 record and are currently 13-9 on the season.
The Renegades opened on Thursday against Pleasanton, California with a 9-3 victory. Ryan Sharpe went the distance and added a two run homer to help the cause. Tyler Winn had a single and double and Travis Fuller doubled and tripled.
In the second game of the day, Susanville played Sutter and Jarrell Cunningham threw a complete game for the win. On offense, Adrik Yacelga, Daniel Perry, Ryan Sharpe, Jake Thomas, Travis Fuller and Jacob Padelford each got a hit.
On Friday Susanville played Damonte Ranch of Reno and squeaked out a 5-4 win. Colby Chavez went seven innings on the mound and got the win. Daniel Perry had a double and triple. Colby Chavez and Ryan Sharpe each had two hits and two runs batted in.
In the second game Susanville played Brookings, Oregon and again came away with a one run 4-3 victory. Rookie Izak Davenport went five innings and picked up the win. Logan Loflin had two hits for the Renegades.
On Saturday Susanville completed the sweep of their bracket by beating Redding 11-1. Garrison Collier went five innings in a game called by the ten run rule. Hunter Morris, Ryan Sharpe and Jaylin Ford each two hits. Hunter Morris, Daniel Perry and Colby Chavez had doubles.
On Sunday the Renegades played the San Leandro Dodgers. San Leandro scored two in the first and the Renegades answered with one in the first and third innings. The Renegades got a bad break in the third with one out and a runner on first. The batter hit a routine double play ball that hit the umpire in front of the second baseman. The Renegades got the out at first but the rules state that the ball is dead and both runners are safe. Instead of being out of the inning or having two outs, San Leandro ended up scoring four runs with the help of two Renegade errors. The Dodgers tacked on a couple more runs and Susanville battled back in the bottom of the seventh to score two more to make it 8-5. Ryan Sharpe had three hits, including a double. Daniel Perry had a triple and Hunter Morris had a double.
“We let a bad break get the best of us, and we made a couple of errors to compound the problem. It was too bad because we had played incredible baseball in the previous five games of the tournament. But we continued to play hard until the last out. We made a strong impression for a team from a small town that could compete on that level. I am very proud of our players and coaches, Eric Perry and Frank Avila”. Coach Steve Robertson
