Good morning! Hope your 4th of July was filled with all the good stuff. Mine certainly was.

It started off with a quick trip to Chester where our Miss Lassen County (Autry, Julia, and Molly) and 2021 contestants (Katelyn, Jodi, Taylore, Jordan, Georgia, EmmaLee, Izzy, and Alliyah) represented our county and country in the annual 4th of July parade.

Joined by Little Mr. Easton Bias, they enjoyed throwing candy out to the many children lining Main Street.

Upon returning home, my family started preparing for our yearly BBQ and fireworks. Then we dried everything off and prepared again. And repeat.

We were all enjoying a delicious dinner when my brother Casey brought up my “Good Stuff” column. He seems to think he has got the short end of the stick in recent weeks and was wondering if anyone would be interested in reading the “other” side of the Good Stuff where he would offer a rebuttal. I assured him that we are all good. 🙂

But seriously, Casey is not always a “fun sucker”. He has been my faithful companion since I was two, good friend to my husband before we started dating, and loves and takes care of my kids like they are his own.

After the 4th, July is all about getting ready for the pageant and fair. I want to encourage all of you to take a day or two and enjoy the fair. See all the exhibits, visit the FFA and 4-H kids in the animal barns, and eat some fried fair food. Our fair and vendors need our support more than ever this year!

Please consider joining the parade on July 24th! Let’s make this year’s parade bigger and better than year’s past. The theme is “Back in the Saddle” and you can enter at the Chamber office at 1516 Main Street.

You could make an elaborate float on someone’s flat-bed trailer, drive a cool car, ride a bike/horse/motorcycle, or just walk with your family and friends. Make a kazoo band with the rest of your neighborhood or coworkers or pass out Otter Pops to the onlookers. The possibilities are endless!

I love Susanville and Lassen Co. with all my heart, but let’s face it; when something doesn’t meet our expectations we like to complain. And whether that’s calling your friend to vent or taking to social media and putting it out there for the world, it breeds negativity. So before you complain about the fair or the parade or the fireworks, DO something about it. It is never too late to be optimistic.

Ambassadress Julia, Miss Lassen Autry, Princess Molly, and Little Mr Easton are parade ready!

Remember when news was ‘newsy’? When you read about weddings, family events and engagement announcements in the newspaper? If you have something that might be newsworthy, please submit it to [email protected] and I’ll do my best to include it here in “The Good Stuff.”
