chpincidentA head-on collision on Highway 395 early Wednesday evening resulted in two fatalities; a 66 year-old Janesville resident and a 68 year-old Adin resident were both killed when their vehicles collided just south of the Johnstonville Dump Road on Bass Hill.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s accident report a 1998 Land Rover driven by an Adin woman was northbound on US-395 south of the Johnstonville Dump Road at approximately 55mph negotiating the long gradual curve in the road. At the same time a 2008 Toyota driven by a Janesville resident was negotiating the curve in the opposite direction.

“For unknown reasons,” details the report, “Party #1 allowed her vehicle to veer to the left and enter the southbound lane of US-395 directly into the path of Party #2.”

The vehicles struck head-on with the Land Rover coming to rest on its wheels in the southbound lane of 395, the Toyota came to a stop on its wheels on the dirt shoulder of the road.

No names have been released at this time but we will follow up as soon as the identities of the two drivers have been released by the Sheriff Coroner’s office.
