Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued a Winter Storm Watch as heavy snow is forecast for Lassen County and surrounding areas beginning this afternoon and continuing until late Saturday night.
Along with Susanville and Lassen County, the Winter Storm Watch is in place for the greater Lake Tahoe area, eastern Plumas and eastern Sierra counties, including the cities of Glenbrook, South Lake Tahoe, Loyalton, Sierraville, Tahoe City, Markleeville, Portola, Westwood, Stateline, Incline Village and Truckee.
The storm is expected to bring heavy snow to the valley floor tonight with snow levels starting around 4,000 feet and rising to around 6,000 or 6,500 feet Saturday night.
Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet are possible above 6,500 feet.
Winds will be gusting at 40 to 50 mph with 60 to 75 mph gusts along the ridgelines from Friday afternoon through late Saturday night.
Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions. Strong winds may cause blowing snow at times with
limited visibility.

Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stuck for several hours.
